No stranger to disappointment in Europe’s elite competition, Henry reflected on his Champions League heartache with Arsenal.
“It will always remain a disappointment in my career because the club are in my heart and in my blood,” he said. “Everybody knows that.
“I am happy though. For my family and the troubles I have suffered playing football. I am still alive.”
As much as it hurts to see him lift the cup in anything other than red and white (or rather, yellow and black in the final), it’s a great testament to the remarkable talent that is — Thierry Henry.
Congrats Barca.
(and way to spoil ManYoo’s party — Boo Hoo, Pretty Boy Ronaldo! See ya in Madrid!)
MASSIVE fixture tonight at the Grove.
This is THE game of the season. It’s all or nothing. The Gunners need two huge goals to thwart United’s shot at glory.
Arseblog reminds us of the enemy we face:
Remember, the guy or girl to your left or right is an Arsenal fan. The boys in red are your team. Our team. United are the enemy. United would kill your mum. They’d run over your puppy and then point and laugh. They would make you listen to Phil Collins. They would insist on putting cloves on everything. They would dip their pizza in ketchup. They would offer you a cup of coffee then serve you chicory. They would force you to watch Tom Hanks films. They would kidnap you then read to you from the novels of Dan Brown. They would drive really slowly in front of you when you’re in a hurry then speed up so they get through the amber light and leave you stuck at the red. They would chew gum loudly in your ear. They would come on our pitch and dance after getting one of our players sent off because of their theatrics. They would score a goal in the last few minutes of a semi-final then show everyone their hairy chest. They would dive to win a penalty to stop us going 50 games unbeaten. They would sing disgusting songs about our manager.
Need I go on? They are not our rivals, not our competitors, not our competitors, not our peers: they are the enemy. Treat them as such.
And in the face of such monstrous evil, such hideous, diving, tantrum throwing, ballerina, monster faced malevolence, make sure you let our lads know that they are fighting the good fight, on the side of truth and righteousness. For, after all, we are The Arsenal.
COME ON YOU REDS.
Dick Tracy: Is the enemy of my enemy my friend, or the enemy of my friend my enemy?
Pat Patton: What?
Dick Tracy: Or enemy of my enemy my enemy?
Pat Patton: What’d he say?
Dick Tracy: The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.
Sam Catchem: He said the enemy of his enemy is his enemy.
Pat Patton: Oh.
It was that kind of weekend. You know, the one where you have to kinda pull for the… ::shudders:: eViL Sp*rs?
Yea. They finished off the Blues. 1-0. Enemy of my enemy, defeats an enemy makes the victorious enemy… my friend?
Then there were the Reds. The Villains (no, not a typo) get annihilated 5-0 by the Reds. Enemy of my (annoying-gnat-like ankle-biting) enemy, is supremely triumphant… makes them…my friend?
Then there’s the “fellow League member of little consequence” (Fulham) SPECTACULARLY DISMANTLING our greatest enemy, ManYoooooo two-ZIP — which makes the former our BESTEST BUDDY OL’ PALS IN THE ENTIRE PREMIERSHIP.
Right?
Thoughts:
- Friedel did not deserve the red card. That was a tad too harsh. Taking out the opponent like that was not his aim. Now Villa have to suffer without him against United. Expect an appeal, and rightly so.
- Wayne Rooney throwing a fit and getting his second card of the game takes the cake.
Oh yea, Gallas, what was that goal all about?
No time for finger pointing, we came out to put away Newcastle 3-1 to get us 3 points ahead of AV. Not comfortable breathing room, but we’re demonstrating an uptick in form while AV seems like they’re sputtering out.
Here’s how it needs to turn out.
The evil Sp*rs need to beat Chelsea.
Fulham is up over dirty Red Devils 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to go. If they win, I will laugh or cry myself to death. Or both.
And Portsmouth did us a favor bygetting Everton off our heels.
(Oh yea, and Arsenal have to show up and shut down Newcastle later today, of course.)
Of course, let’s start with my Gunners.
Arsenal: 4
Blackburn: 0, ZIP, NADA, CERO, BIG FAT GOOSE-EGG.
You get the point.
Ade owned with a hat-trick with RVP notching one as well. Theo set one up and Jack Wilshere became the youngest player to grace the pitch in a League game for the club at 16 years 256 days.

Liverpool: 2
ManYoo: 1
muhahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha
Sorry. Can’t disguise my joy at the Reds victory over United.
Don’t know what to make of Berbatov in place of Rooney with Rooney on the wing… I kinda think some of the comments I’ve read suggesting Tevez go to the wing makes more sense.
But what do I care? As long as they’re losing!

Hull beat further added to the Toon misery of late following Keegan’s exit with their 2-1 win. I know it’s stupid early in the campaign but I’m kinda pulling for Hull to do well this year, at least stay in the top 10 (or close to it). How great would that be for a Champs quality team?

On a non-EPL note… what’s with Henry riding the pine in Barca’s latest loss? As much as I would like to see him back in the red n’ white at Emirates, I do hope he is able to turn his Barca career around. Hate to see him end his career on a note like that… but with rumors abound claiming he’s MLS-bound next year, it’s not like it could get much worse. I’m sorry, but there’s no way he’d go to the Galaxy… Zoo York maybe, but not LA.

A strong showing by Arsenal and a United loss makes for a great football weekend.
Rob Parrish @ SkySports:
The Premier League fixture compilers clearly have a wicked sense of humour, sending Liverpool to Aston Villa in the final match before the transfer window closes.
I hope Barry makes them regret they didn’t pony up and pay Villa’s asking price. Should be an interesting game.
How bout Zenit beating ManYoo in the SuperCup?? 2-1, baby.
As for my Gunners, it should be a great match. Hopefully the momentum from whomping McClaren’s Twente 4-0 will carry over to this weekend. Gallas and Walcott are reported to be back and Fabregas is sposed to be OK. Apparenly New Castle’s ranks are thinned a bit but nevertheless, Owen is always a threat.
C’mon Arsenal!!!!
In re the matter of Matthieu Flamini and his desire to leave a promising squad who gave him a chance to fight for a first team place and instead chose more money with a club who (may) finish fourth and as of now is 20 pts behind the leader (Inter):
Flamini didn’t sell out. He went and got paid. Can’t blame him. AW [Arsene Wenger] had a chance to tie him up but chose to let him play for a contract this year. Flamini responded with the best season of his career- thus his fat Milan contract. Now he will fade into obscurity at San Siro, but that is besides the point…. I don’t hate on Flamini for his decision, although I think its a foolish one career-wise. Anyway, we move on. We will be fine next year.
– goldsoundz at the FSC board
That pretty much sums it up for me. Honestly though, if it came down to the money game, you can’t blame him. Wenger just couldn’t afford to splash the cash with Flamini with the Emirates debt – they have to stick to the current wage structure. Ah, well, best of luck to Flamini. I just hope AW can find a suitable partner for Cesc in the middle.
As for Lehmann, I will not call into question his determination and discipline as a keeper, but as a sportsman, I was less than pleased with the manner in which he “‘expressed his disdain at ‘sitting on the bench behind somebody who only started to play when he was 30′” I can’t blame Almunia for feeling the way he did if the reports of their volatile relationship are true.
Nevertheless, bravo to Lehmann for his solid tenure as a Gunner and best wishes to him and his family wherever he plays next. As arseblogger stated,
“for now it’s thanks Jens and good luck, you toe-stamping, Drogba pushing, ref baiting, Gallas shouting, top save making loon.”
heh.
You know how much the Mrs. loves me?
She surprised me with this when I came home from an emergency work call yesterday:

Now I can watch my Gooners at home for the first time — no more having to follow the games on ‘net feeds or trekking out to the pub (though I’m sure I’ll have to do both at times).
Thankfully, Big Guy doesn’t mind if we worship at St. Mattress now and then (at least I hope/think He doesn’t.
More important than my wife’s gift of FSC and Goonerdom in mi casa is His gift:
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.
