Spot, Pooch-in-Chief

The President George W. Bush and Spot walk across the South Lawn following the President
I had no idea President Bush had a springer (what appears to be a field springer, no less). I’ve seen the Christmas video with the hilarious “Barney-Cam” but did not realize W owned a springer. “Spot” was named after former Texas Rangers ballplayer Scott Fletcher and passed away in February 2004.

Spot arrives at Camp David with the President aboard Marine One, Dec. 26, 2001.
Check out Spot’s bio and photo page.
Very cool, indeed.
Philadelphia Phillies – 2008 World Series Champions

Finally, I can get ’93 out of my head and no longer equate the word “Phillies” with “Wild Thing” “Joe Carter” and “testicular cancer.”
(Sorry, Kruk. And no, we won’t forget your .300 lifetime average and 100 homers, big guy.).
Real’s Calderon giving up on C.Ronaldo
“But I would like to say clearly that Madrid is not doing anything to disturb a nice and friendly club like Manchester.
“That is the final word and we are happy.”
And apparently smoking something.
“We are happy.”
What the heck does that mean?
C.Ronaldo is probably feeling the un-love right now.
Reagan on Obama’s tax policy
“You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.” – Ronald Reagan
I am not sure, but I think that Mr. Reagan falls into the “teach a man to fish…” camp.
Just a guess.
“An Army of Joes”
Dave in Texas writes over at Ace’s about Tito Munoz, a small construction business owner, who has had enough of the treatment Joe the Plumber is getting from the press.
Though his (Tito’s) legal status is not the main point of the story, I dug this quote:
“I was born in Colombia, but I was made in the U.S.A.”
Rock on, Tito.
Rush on Powell’s endorsement of Obama
“I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star [general] and secretary of state and appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let’s hear it for transformational figures.“
Ouch.
McCain and Obama offer words of encouragement, motivation, inspiration, etc.
Guess who said what:
I know what fear feels like. It’s a thief in the night who robs your strength. I know what hopelessness feels like. It’s an enemy who defeats your will. I felt those things once before. I will never let them in again. I’m an American. And I choose to fight.
Don’t give up hope. Be strong. Have courage. And fight.
Fight for a new direction for our country. Fight for what’s right for America. Fight to clean up the mess of corruption, infighting and selfishness in Washington.
Fight to get our economy out of the ditch and back in the lead.
Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.
Fight for our children’s future.
Fight for justice and opportunity for all.
Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.
Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. America is worth fighting for. Nothing is inevitable here. We never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.
Meanwhile, That Guy had these inspiring words:
“Don’t underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory,” he said, only half in jest. “Don’t underestimate our ability to screw it up.”
Truer words were never spoken.
